Oliver ‘Ollie’ ‘Butch’ Harold Carpenter

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Oliver (Ollie) (Butch) Harold Carpenter, a resident of Cable, Ohio who departed this life peacefully at home on August 6, 2024, at the age of 86.

Born on November 28, 1937, in Greeneville, Ohio to Harvey and Ina (Clemens)

Carpenter and later grew up in West Liberty. Ollie lived a life marked by hard work graduating Magna Cum Laude from Carnegie College in Cleveland and later earning his PH.D. He enjoyed a successful career as a medical laboratory director, where he was known for his exceptional leadership, meticulous attention to detail and love of the science, making many contributions to his field and earning the respect of his colleagues and those that knew him. He also had a deep love for his family and farm life. He raised many types of animals, from sheep, goats, cattle, chickens, horses and even llamas.

Above all, Ollie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by Rebecca Ann (Becky) Carpenter, his loving partner and wife of 43 years, their three children Oliver Hank Carpenter (Nikki), Irene Nicole Carpenter (Jonathan), and Oliver Luke Carpenter (Amy), and grandchildren Piper Aileen Ann Carter, Oliver Jenson Sink, Keith Joseph Sink, III.

He is also survived by his four children Marla Kaye Nicol (Neil), John Clark Carpenter (Kim), Mike Scott Carpenter (Lynne), and Leesa Hattori (Bill), and grandchildren, Liliana Carpenter, Alecia Carpenter, Jackson Carpenter, Chase Carpenter, Amanda Kerns (Ryan), Lauren Ricker (Matthew), Austin Carpenter, Caleb Nicol (Alyna) and Krista Nicol and many great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a brother Eugene Carpenter and sisters Loveria Osman and Martha Grimes.

Ollie had a great sense of humor and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time on his farm, tending the land and caring for his animals. Whether it was feeding the livestock, walking the fields, or simply enjoying the peace and beauty of the countryside, his farm was his sanctuary.

Ollie’s legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. He will be remembered for his love of family and farming and the endless memories he helped to create.

Private services will be held for the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, Ohio.
