London hands Bellefontaine losses in baseball, softball

LONDON — Bellefontaine’s softball team fell to London on Wednesday, in both the completion of a suspended game and the regularly scheduled matchup.

The Red Raiders won the completed game 12-6. They were ahead 8-6 when play was stopped on Monday.

Bellefontaine scored two in the first, one in the third, and three in the fourth. London got four runs in the first, one in the third, five in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

Joy Fogan had started the contest, and wound up going 3 1/3 innings. She allowed eight runs on seven hits, with with four walks and three strikeouts. Kassi Prine took the ball for the other 2 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on four hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Addison Wical hit a two-run homer and Prine doubled. Others driving in runs were Laila Butler, Airiana Young, Ava Watson and Carissa Cozad.

In the second game, London got a 9-3 victory over the Lady Chieftains.

Fogan went the distance for Bellefontaine, with five strikeouts.

Wical, Butler and Chloe Heminger hit doubles for Bellefontaine, with Wical driving in two of the team’s runs. Prine had two hits.

Bellefontaine got one in the first inning and two in the last one. London scored three runs in both the first and fourth, along with single runs in the third, fifth and sixth frames.

Bellefontaine is now 4-8 in the conference, and 6-11 overall. They will travel to Shawnee today and host North Union Friday.

BASEBALL

LONDON — The baseball team also wound up with a pair of losses to London.

In the completion of the game from Monday, London held on for a 5-4 win.

The Red Raiders had scored four runs in the second and one in the third.

Bellefontaine got one in the fourth, then got one in the sixth. They scored two in the seventh before it ended.

Spencer Stolly started the contest and pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits. Sammy Kline got the final out of the second, then pitched the third, and surrendered one run on one hit. Luke LeVan finished up with three innings of scoreless relief. Stolly had two walks, with one each by Kline and LeVan, and LeVan had the only strikeout.

Brody Boy hit a double. Jose Sandoval had two RBIs, with one each by LeVan and Zylar Huffman.

In the full game, London recorded an 11-0 win.

Starter Jose Sandoval worked five innings, allowing five runs on three hits. He walked two and got four strikeouts. Brody Boy pitched in the sixth, allowing two runs with one hit and and one walk. Patrick Stolly finished up, allowing four tallies on two hits, with a walk and two strikeouts.

Sandoval, Boy and Alex Caudill had hits for the Chieftains.

London scored four in the third, one in the fifth, two in the sixth, then four more in the seventh.

Bellefontaine’s record is now 3-9 in the CBC and 4-11 overall. They play at Shawnee today and host North Union Friday.
