A man reportedly brandishing a firearm and making threatening comments was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 25, following an investigation by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department.

Lance Bailey, 35, of Bellefontaine, was charged with illegally discharging a firearm within city limits and violating his probation.

Officers were dispatched shortly after 8 p.m. to 120 W. Brown Ave. on a report of a man threatening to fire a gun and kill a police officer.

Upon arrival, officers observed a male, later identified as the suspect, enter a residence in the 200 block of north Detroit Street. After securing the area, officers ordered the suspect to exit the home at gunpoint. Bailey complied and was taken into custody without further incident.

Bailey told officers that he was not suicidal but was upset and had been shooting a BB gun inside his residence. He admitted to hiding the weapon before leaving and provided its location to officers, who secured it. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
