
Fire caused heavy damage Thursday, Jan. 30, to the residence at 215 W. Powell Ave., Bellefontaine.
Bellefontaine Fire and EMS personnel responded about 11:55 a.m. to the scene and reported seeing flames coming from a second-story window on the home’s west side.
The lone male occupant inside the home at the time of the blaze was not physically injured, according to Bellefontaine Fire Chief Brian Wilson.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury to his hand and another had symptoms of heat exhaustion, Chief Wilson said.
The resident told firefighters he was in an upstairs bedroom when he heard a “pop.” When the man went to investigate the noise he discovered clothes near a radiant heater in an upstairs bathroom had caught fire.
Huntsville Fire and EMS provided mutual aid.
The resident was displaced as a result of the fire. Red Cross is providing assistance.
Damage estimates were not immediately available.
Firefighters were still at the scene as of 3 p.m.
The home is owned by Mark O’Brien, according to Logan County Auditor records.
The fire remains under investigation.
