Russian translator retires from State Department

Bellefontaine native Bruce Collins retires this month as senior diplomatic translator for Russian/English at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.

Before joining the State Department in 2012, Collins was a Russian technical translator and analyst at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton.

He had previously worked for over 20 years as a translator and editor at the Current Digest of the Soviet Press, an academic journal formerly published at The Ohio State University. Collins holds degrees in Russian and journalism from Ohio State.

A Bellefontaine High School Class of 1975 graduate, he is a son of Bellefontaine resident Mrs. Carol A. Collins and the late Gerald L. Collins. He and his wife Tammy reside in Columbus.
