Lakers have 4 runner-up finishes, qualify six for D3 districts

Indian Lake’s wrestling team had four wrestlers finished in second at their respective weight classes Saturday in the Division III sectional tournament at Versailles.

The Lakers finished third in the team standings with 133 points. Versailles won the tourney title with 234.5 points and Brookville was second with 166.5 points.

Triad also wrestled and finished 12th with 46.5 points.

Taking runner-up honors for the Lakers were Czar Dickson (132), Owen Pummel (190), Adrian Crumley (215) and Dylan Valerio (285).

The top four finishers in each weight class earned spots in the district tourney.

Also advancing for the Lakers were Zander Davis (165) and KeShawn Blackwell (106).

Davis placed third and Blackwell was fourth.

Also for the Lakers, Gavin Henry (126) placed fifth and Taylor Clem (175) was sixth.

Awsom Mitchell (175) led Triad with a second-place finish. Mitchell is now 42-6 on the season.

Thomas Ford (190) placed fifth for the Cardinals and Michael Gregg (113) and Ty Thomas (215) were sixth.

The Division III district tournament is next Friday and Saturday in Troy. The top four finishes will move on to the state tourney.

Raiders 3rd, Chiefs 8th at D2 sectional

Benjamin Logan finished in third place and Bellefontaine was eighth in the Division II sectional tournament Saturday at Graham High Schoo.

The host Falcons rolled to the team title with 341.5 points. Tecumseh was runner-up with 129 points and the Raiders had 120.5 points. The Chiefs tallied 89.5 points.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class earned spots in the district tournament.
The Raiders came away with six district qualifiers. Leading the way was Kendall Plikerd, who took second at 150 pounds.

Finishing third for the Raiders were Carter Buck (113), Evan Carpenter (126) and Matthew Beikman (165).

Mason Daum (106) and Kameron Larson (126) both placed fourth to move on.
Adding sixth-place efforts for Ben Logan were Daniel Koehler (175) and Owen Jordan (190).

Bellefontaine saw three of its wrestlers advance to district action.

The Chiefs had a trio of third-place finishers. That group included Jared Young (106), Zane Tevis (138) and Parker Knox (175).

Knox went 5-1 with five pins, Young had three pins and Tevis had two pins.

Adding sixth-place finishes for the Chiefs were Jeffery Smith (113), Wyatt Latimer (126), Wes Morris (132), Zavier May (144) and Mason Cook (150).

“We’re really proud of these three (district qualifiers),” said BHS head coach Aaron LaBatt. “They put in a lot of time during the offseason, so this is something they’ve been working toward for a long time.

“As a team, we had a much better performance than we did at league. We placed eight out of 11 wrestlers in the top six. It was also how we wrestled that we were really pleased with.”

The Division II district tournament is Friday and Saturday at Wilmington High School.
Tigers qualify three to districts

West Liberty-Salem wrestled in the Division III sectional tournament at Covington on Saturday and was led by three district qualifiers.

The Tigers placed eighth as a team with 73 points. Miami East won the team title with 196.5 points and Legacy Christian was second with 183.5.

Jacob Griffith (132) led the Tigers with a second-place finish.

The Tigers’ Matthew Christison (150) finished third to advance and Wylie Harbour (215) was fourth to move on.

Max Rudolph (138) and Lee Stocksdale (144) were fifth for the Tigers.
