MARYSVILLE – A Springfield man has died from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle-car crash that occurred about 1:24 a.m. Sunday, May 18, on U.S. Route 33 in Union County.
Troopers from the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report that a 2024 Honda CBR 600 motorcycle operated by Jacob Z. Rhonehouse, 33, of Marysville, was traveling southeast on U.S. 33 when he attempted to pass between two southeast-bound cars. Rhonehouse then struck the rear of a 2017 Chevrolet Spark driven by Jonathan H. Wallace, 67, of Springfield, ejecting Rhonehouse from the motorcycle and forcing the Wallace vehicle off the the right side of the roadway, where it overturned several times before coming to rest in a ditch.
Both motorists sustained serious injuries, with Wallace being transported to Union County Memorial Hospital by the Allen Township Fire Department, and then to the Ohio State University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Rhonehouse was flown by MedFlight helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Updates on his condition were not immediately available.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash and both drivers were using appropriate safety equipment.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
