An incoming Indian Lake High School freshman had an unexpectedly good evening Wednesday, July 10, at the Junior Fair Market Lamb Show.

Chloe Borgerding, a Miami Valley 4-H Producers 4-H member, swept the grand champion and reserve grand champion awards with her only two entries in the contest, “Phineas” and “Cheesecake.”

In addition, she won the grand champion pair of two market lambs award.

The 14-year-old said she has been showing market lambs since she was 9 years old, and this is her first grand champion or reserve win.

“I’m so excited, and I can’t believe it,” she said after the show, noting that her lambs were originally named “Phineas” and “Ferb” after the Disney TV show, but her brother, veteran lamb showman, Colby, convinced her that the dessert delicacy better fit Ferb.

Chloe, whose family lives in Belle Center, raises her sheep on her grandparents’ farm near Huntsville.

“I work with my sheep every day and try to build a bond with them,” said the student athlete, who also plays basketball and softball.

Other top winner’s in Wednesday night’s show included Jase Thompson, third place overall; Cy Cummins, fourth place overall; and Karsyn Yoder, fifth place overall.

Also, for the pen of two market lambs contest, Lydia Johnson received the reserve grand champion award.

In the breeding sheep show, Konnor Barns won supreme ram over all breeds, and Jase Thompson received supreme ewe over all breeds.

Judge Jeremy Bradford, a longtime educator and sheep judge, praised the exhibitors’ dedication and their family and friends for packing the show arena.

“For our parents, family members and friends, it takes a community to raise livestock and to support our kids in this way. Your presence means so much to the kids.”
