Patrol helicopter that was part of the fun Saturday, Aug. 19, at the
Bellefontaine Police Department’s 11th annual Community Safety Day,
staged at Southview Park. Trooper Tim Wenger, who is a 20-year member
of the OSHP and has been in the Aviation Section since 2015, said his
unit is stationed at OSU’s Don Scott Airport and they fly almost
daily. The helicopter’s average speed hovers at approximately 125 to
130 mph, he said. A resident Zanesfield area resident, Trooper Wenger
said he was enthusiastic about being part of the local celebration of
law enforcement and safety services. (EXAMINER PHOTO | MANDY LOEHR)

High-tech safety demo
Dublin Police Officer Scott Brown details his department’s high-tech
drones for attendees of the Bellefontaine Police Department’s
Community Safety Day Saturday, Aug. 19, at Southview Park. The two
drones raced as part of the safety day festivities. One of the drones
pictured can top 52 mph in sport mode, Officer Brown said, also noting
that there are 14 officers in Dublin PD’s drone unit. The 11th annual
event featured law enforcement and safety services from the local,
state and federal levels, and also special K9 demonstrations and the
Columbus Police Department’s Mounted Unit on site as well. Children
enjoyed bouncy houses and other free activities. The BPD barbecue
chicken dinner benefitting the K9 Unit also returned, with the local
Modern Woodmen Chapter pledging to match funds raised through the
ticket sales. (EXAMINER PHOTO | MANDY LOEHR)
