Ben Logan baseball tops Shawnee in extra innings

SPRINGFIELD — Benjamin Logan got a 5-3 win over Shawnee in Central Buckeye Conference Mad River action, with the game decided in the eighth inning.

Bryden Morris threw a complete game to get the victory. He allowed three runs on 12 hits, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Morris also had a triple, while AJ Griffith had two RBIs, doing so without a hit.

After two scoreless innings, Shawnee put one on the board in the bottom of the third.

Morris tripled and scored on an error in the top of the fourth to tie it.

The Raiders went ahead in the fifth on a single by Cayden Brown and a misplayed grounder off the bat of Camden Spriggs.

Shawnee squeezed out a run in the bottom of the seventh on two hits and a fielder’s choice.

Two Shawnee errors, and a walk in between, gave Ben Logan its first run in the eighth. After an intentional walk to Parker Yelton, Griffith’s grounder to shortstop was misplayed, with Morris and Spriggs crossing the plate.

Morris allowed three hits in the bottom half, and an error let in one run. But he then got a force play for the final out.

Ben Logan is now 5-4 in the CBC and 7-7 overall. They play at Fairbanks today at 5 p.m.

Indian Lake 8, Northwestern 0

SPRINGFIELD — Indian Lake blanked host Northwestern in a CBC Mad River contest on Wednesday.

Winning pitcher Jaxon Snipes held the Warriors to one hit in his 5 2/3 innings of work. He walked two and got 11 strikeouts. 

Cooper Hall finished up, with 1 1/3 innings, with one hit, one walk and three Ks.

Kolton Cummins had a double and drove in two runs for the Lakers. Also getting RBIs were Bryce Burton, Lane Kipker and Snipes.

Indian Lake scored five runs in the second, using walks and a groundout for the first run, then two hits and a sacrifice fly for the others. 

In the third, walks to Cy Cummins and Kipker led to them both coming around to score. They tacked on the final run in the fourth.

Indian Lake goes to 7-2 in the CBC and 8-3 overall. Next up is a trip to Jonathan Alder on Friday. Each team currently leads its division. Game time is 5:15 p.m.

Jonathan Alder 12, Bellefontaine 0

PLAIN CITY — Bellefontaine lost to host Jonathan Alder in a CBC Kenton Trail contest. The game ended after five innings.

The Pioneers scored one run apiece in the first and third, with five runs in both the second and fourth innings.

Bellefontaine had one hit in the contest, by Jose Sandoval. Alex Caudill had a walk, and Sandoval was also hit by a pitch.

Brody Boy started and pitched three-plus innings. He allowed nine runs on six hits, with three walks and three strikeouts.

Finishing up were Sandoval and Lincoln Banta. Sandoval was charged with three runs. Each had two walks, with one strikeout by Sandoval.

Bellefontaine is now 2-5 in the CBC and 3-7 overall. They return to action on Saturday when they host St. Marys at noon.

SOFTBALL

Jonathan Alder 7, Bellefontaine 4

PLAIN CITY — Bellefontaine lost to host Jonathan Alder in CBC action.

Alder’s runs came in the second and third (two each) and then three more in the sixth.

Bellefontaine had one in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Kassi Prine pitched the first three, with Joy Fogan going the other frames. Prine walked three and struck out two, and Fogan had one walk.

Prine and Fogan each had three hits, with two apiece by Laila Butler and Addison Wical.

Fogan got two RBIs, with one each by Butler and Airiana Young.

Bellefontaine (2-6 CBC, 4-9 overall) travels to Urbana on Monday at 5;15 p.m.

Indian Lake 13, Northwestern 3

SPRINGFIELD — Indian Lake downed host Northwestern in CBC play.

Bre Wisener hurled a complete game, allowing six hits and one walk. She got three outs on strikes.

The Lady Lakers piled up 15 hits. That included a solo home run and double by Annie Rapp, a two-run homer by Halle Roby, and a solo shot by Wisener. Abigail Elliott, Izzi Mackesy and Kit Miller all had doubles.

Roby had three hits and four RBIs in all, with three hits and two RBIs by Wisener. Rapp had two RBIs, and Mackenzie Dixon, Elliott and Mackesy one each.

They scored three in the first, four in the second, two in the third, then one in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Indian Lake is now 6-4 in the conference and 11-6 overall. They visit Jonathan Alder on Friday at 5:15 p.m.

SPRINGFIELD — Shawnee topped Ben Logan in CBC action.

Shawnee scored one run in the first, and the other in the fifth.

Taking the loss for the Raiders was Chloe Crumm. She gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four.

Rylan Norviel had two hits, and SIdney Sallee got a double.

Ben Logan drops to 6-4 in the conference and 9-5 overall. They head to Tecumseh on Friday. Start time is 5 p.m.
