Emergency first responders in Logan County were kept on their toes Wednesday, June 4 handling a least five separate crashes around the county.
Huntsville Fire and EMS responded to a three-vehicle serious injury crash about 8:45 a.m. in the 6700 block of Lima Street (State Route 117) in Huntsville.
The three drivers were injured in the crash, two of whom were airlifted to Columbus hospitals where they were reported in critical and serious condition Wednesday afternoon.
Troopers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol handled the crash and were also assisted by Indian Lake EMS, BMRT squad, Bellefontaine EMS, Richland Township Fire, and two medical helicopters.
• West Liberty Fire Department responded to a crash around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday involving a pick-up truck and a dump truck, WLFD reports.
The driver — a West Liberty teen — of the pick-up truck was trapped and had to be mechanically extracted. The driver was then flown by medical helicopter to a Dayton hospital.
• About 7:15 p.m., Bellefontaine Fire & EMS was dispatched to a car-into-a-tree crash in the 200 block of East Chillicothe Avenue in the city. At least two people were injured and were transported by squad to Mary Rutan Hospital.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department handled the crash. Macochee Ambulance and Tri-Valley EMS assisted at the scene.
• Around 10 p.m., WLFD was the first to arrive at a two-vehicle crash at Township Road 55 and County Road 1 (Ludlow) involving a sport utility vehicle and a tractor. WLFD with mutual aid from Bellefontaine Fire Department performed a “very technical rescue extraction” of the SUV’s injured driver.
The SUV’s driver was transported by Bellefontaine EMS to the Mary Rutan Hospital helipad and flown by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Haz-mat crews were called the scene to clean up fertilizer that spilled onto the roadway.
While assisting with the vehicle extraction at the T.R. 55 and C.R. 1 crash, WLFD was dispatched to a third injury crash involving two vehicles on U.S. Route 68 at Township Road 199.
Troopers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol handled the crash and were also assisted by DeGraff Fire Department, Riverside EMS and Indian Lake EMS.
