Kaitlyn M. Brown, 18, of Urbana, was transported by Bellefontaine EMS to the Mary Rutan Hospital helipad and flown by Lifeflight helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton for treatment of suspected serious injuries sustained in a crash Wednesday evening, June 4.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Brown was operating a southbound 2001 Chevrolet Suburban about 10 p.m. on County Road 1 (Ludlow Road) near Township Road 55.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Brown drove left of center and struck a northbound 2022 Case IH 350 tractor hauling a planter.

The operator of the tractor, Stephen Schlumbohm, 77, of DeGraff, did not report any injuries.

Brown and one of the occupants of the SUV, Jessica M. Sutton, 38, of Urbana, reportedly were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by mechanical means by the West Liberty Fire Department, with mutual aid from Bellefontaine Fire Department.

Sutton did not report any injuries.

Haz-mat crews were called the scene to clean up fertilizer that spilled onto the roadway.

Occupants of both the SUV and tractor were wearing their seat belts, deputies said.

Damage was heavy to the SUV, which was towed from the scene, and moderate to the tractor. No citations have yet been issued and investigation continues.
