Henderson sets State Sale of Champions record for her market turkey

COLUMBUS — In her last year eligible for 4-H, an East Liberty resident concluded her time at the Ohio State Fair in a very memorable way Sunday, Aug. 6.

Maria Henderson’s Grand Champion Market Turkey sold for a record-setting $45,000 at the Ohio State Fair Sale of Champions.

Her Grand Champion turkey was purchased by Mark and Megan Kvamme and Family and Bernie Moreno, a candidate for U.S. Senate.

Henderson, a 2022 Benjamin Logan High School graduate also came back from her first year of college at Oberlin College for a busy week of showing animals at the Logan County Fair earlier this summer, where she garnered a Reserve Champion Market Turkey honors as well.

“I didn’t want to miss this year,” she said following the Junior Fair Poultry Show at the Logan County Fair.

At Oberlin College, the Manes & Ranes 4-H member is studying bio chemistry and environmental engineering and wants to pursue scientific research in the future.
