A North Lewisburg woman was sentenced to five years in prison May 13 for driving drunk into the path of Chloe Gross’s vehicle on Nov. 2, 2024.
Chloe, a Huntsville resident, was severely injured in the head-on collision on U.S. Route 33 near State Route 540. She will live the rest of her life with permanent disabilities.
Logan County Common Pleas Judge Kevin P. Braig handed down the maximum sentence allowed by Ohio law for aggravated vehicular assault, a charge to which 29-year-old Emily Olvera pleaded guilty to on April 8.
She also pleaded guilty to a first-degree misdemeanor of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Judge Braig ordered her to serve a concurrent six-month sentence for OVI and up to three years of post release control.
According to Logan County Sheriff’s reports, Olvera was eastbound on U.S. 33 in a Honda CRV when it collided head-on with Chloe’s westbound Honda Civic. Both vehicles traveled off the roadway with the SUV catching on fire.
Chloe was 18 at the time and was mechanically extracted from the car.
Olvera mistakenly entered the westbound lanes, according to authorities.
She sobbed as she addressed the court via a video link.
