Jennifer Allen, 45, of DeGraff, was taken into custody by Bellefontaine police officers Saturday, April 19, for theft after she reportedly attempted to take unpaid for merchandise from Wal-Mart, 2281 S. Main St.

Officers arrived at the store about 3:40 p.m. and were informed by security personnel Allen had placed about $460.40 worth of unscanned items in the bottom of her shopping cart and into her jacket. She then put paid items over the stolen goods to conceal them and attempted to leave the store.

Officers requested surveillance footage and witness statements from store employees.

The suspect asked officers if she could contact her daughter to pick up groceries she purchased and her keys.

Allen was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
