West Liberty-Salem answered the opening bell just fine.

The Tigers got the 2024-25 season under way on Tuesday with a comfortable 64-44 victory at home over Cedarville in Ohio Heritage Conference boys basketball.

Due to the school’s extended run in the football postseason to the state semifinals, the first
few games of basketball had to be rescheduled.

On Tuesday, the Tigers looked to senior Taran Logwood and junior Brevin Louden. They led from wire to wire, though the Indians kept things close during the first half Logwood racked up 22 points on the night and Louden had 17.

For Cedarville, now 1-1 in the OHC and 3-2 over- all, Brett Haemmerle led with 19. Ryan Reed had 10 and Nate Van Loo added nine.

“I wasn’t quite sure what we were going to get in the first live action,” said Tigers coach Darrin Leichty.

He noted that “(Cedarville) played a little faster than I anticipated. They put us on our
heels a little bit. They had some open threes. I wasn’t expecting that. It’s early in the season, so you’re still not quite sure what everybody’s roles are.”

Logwood opened the scoring with an up-and-under move on the open- ing possession, then had a steal and layup.
