URBANA — An Urbana woman was killed Saturday night, April 15, inside her apartment by an apparent gunshot and her roommate has been charged with murder, officers of the Urbana Police Department report.

Kaden M. Harkins, 25, was declared dead at the scene upon officers arrival around 9:28 p.m. Saturday to the Endowment Building, 113 S. Main St., Urbana. Officers were dispatched to that location and found Harkins inside apartment 201. She was pronounced dead by Champaign County Coroner Dr. Joshua Richards.

The victim’s male roommate Jamie J. King, 30, has been charged with murder, a first-degree felony, and having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony.

King has previously been convicted of a felony offense. He was found outside the Endowment Building when Urbana police and fire arrived on scene.

The suspect was lodged in the Tri-County Jail in Mechanicsburg on a $510,000 bond. Additional charges may be forthcoming, Urbana Police Chief Matt Lingrell said.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations Crime Scene Unit assisted at the scene.

“I also appreciate the patience of the manager and residents who reside in the apartment building, who were somewhat inconvenienced by the large turnout of law enforcement, and the partitioning off of sections of the building while the scene was processed,” Lingrell said.
