ARCANUM — The Raiders finally ran out of gas.

Benjamin Logan was defeated 6-0 by Bishop Fenwick in a Division V district baseball final on Friday evening.

The Raiders were held to just three hits plus a couple of other baserunners on the day. They end the season with a record of 13-13.

“Our guys just had a hard time picking the ball up, and just couldn’t get anything. We had guys on base, but just couldn’t get the hit when we needed it,” said Ben Logan coach Jeremy Allen.

He noted that freshman Adam Tinsman did well for being in a big spot. “We made too many mistakes behind him and at this level, you can’t make those mistakes and win,” he said.

Tinsman was the losing pitcher. He worked 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. Finishing up was Soli Hughes, who gave up a run on four hits. Each walked one and struck out two.

Carter Lyden, Camden Spriggs, and Parker Yelton had singles.

Fenwick senior Carter Williamson threw a complete game. He struck out six and walked three.

Jackson Kauffman had a solo home run, while Hudson Kreke, Carter Shouse and Dylan Fletcher each had doubles. Kauffman drove in a second run, while Joe Koetter, Fletcher and Anthony Snyder brought in one apiece.

Williamson led off the game with a single for the Falcons, but he and Kreke were erased on a double play. Shouse then belted a ball to the base of the fence in center, but it cost them nothing. A groundout to short got the Raiders out of the inning.

With one out in the home half, Lyden hit a roller down the line, and the ball bounced off the first base bag, allowing him to reach safely. Bryden Morris then walked, but the next two hitters were retired.

Each team left one man aboard in the second. Fenwick went in order in the third. Soli Hughes got a leadoff walk. He took off for second as Lyden attempted to bunt. Lyden did not draw contact, and the catcher was able to fire out in time to get Hughes.

In the fourth, Shouse singled through the left side. He would steal second and then go to third on a flyout. A pitch that bounced and went to the backstop allowed him to score the first run of the contest.

Spriggs got aboard with a line drive single to left. Griffith then hit a grounder to first. He stepped on the bag for one out, and fired over to second for a double play. Yelton got a single but was left stranded after a groundout.

Kauffman then doubled the lead for the Falcons as he blasted a pitch over the fence in right field. Tinsman retired three of the next four on flyouts to center and a popup to Yelton behind the plate to limit the damage.

Xavier Allen was hit in the leg by a pitch, and moved to second on a sac bunt by Oliver Morse. But Williamson got Hughes and Lyden out on fly balls to preserve the shutout.

Shouse kept his good fortune going in the sixth as he reached on a ball that handcuffed the third baseman. He moved to second on a groundout and then stole third.

A dropped third strike to Koettner was thrown to first. But the ball went sailing past, allowing Shouse to score and Koettner to reach second. The Falcons put in Michael Kelchner as a pinch runner.

Fletcher smacked a double to center scoring Kelchner to make it 4-0. Anthony Snyder went in to run. He went to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a sac fly by Kauffman.

After a single by Isaac Barker, Tinsman was replaced by Hughes on the mound. Hughes gave up a single on a liner to left, but then struck out Williamson.

The Raiders went in order in the sixth and seventh, while Bishop Fenwick tacked on a run on a couple of hits in their final at-bat.

The Falcons (15-10) advance to the regional semifinal on Wednesday at Xenia.

Playing their final game were seniors Camden Spriggs, Carter Lyden, AJ Griffith and Bryden Morris. Allen praised them for their leadership, and noted that there will be plenty of players coming back next season.

“We’re pretty positive about the future, we’ve got some good things coming and we’re gonna learn from here,” said Allen.
