Bellefontaine Middle School eighth-grader Sloan Stolly correctly spelled “wok” in the 31st round of the BMS spelling bee to become the champion of the annual contest Wednesday, Dec. 6.
Classmate Caden Yoder was runner-up. A total of 35 students in grades 6-8 competed in the bee.
Both Sloan and Caden have qualified for the Logan County Spelling Bee hosted by the Holland Theatre at 6 p.m. Jan. 16.
Sloan will also take an online spelling and vocabulary test in February to advance toward the Scripps National Spelling Bee. She is a daughter of Josh and Whitney Stolly.
Caden is a son of Colin and Carrie Yoder.
Lindy Martin was the moderator of the BMS spelling bee. Stephanie Fissel and Julie Kurtz were the judges.
