Rock Lynn Brenner, 56, of Cable, Ohio, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023, in The James Cancer Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, with his wife of thirty plus years by his side, after a nineteen-month battle with environmentally-caused Lung Cancer.
He was born May 16, 1966, in Urbana, Ohio, the youngest child of Virginia (Spain) Brenner & the late Norman Brenner. Rock was a 1984 graduate of Triad Local Schools. He retired August 1, 2021 from Honda Manufacturing just three months short of 32 years of service.
He was a dedicated Ohio State, Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan. Woodworking and Gardening were two of his favorite hobbies. Last summer he was able to check his top two bucket list items off by visiting ‘The Field of Dreams’ movie site and watching the Reds play at Wrigley Field, thanks impart to The Karen Wellington Foundation. He loved traveling with his wife and graciously put up with her searching out those sometimes-eluding lighthouses along the coasts. The twenty plus years of fishing trips to Rice Lake in Gores Landing Canada with family and friends was always the highlight of each June.
Along with his mother, Rock is survived by his wife, Wendy Jo (Kauffman-Towns) Brenner, whom he married April 10, 1992; children Steven Christopher Towns, Urbana OH and Andrew Joseph (Kari Nowiski) Towns, Columbus OH; grandchildren Garrett Christopher Towns, Athena Rose Towns, Eva Layne Towns; sister Kim VanHoose, North Lewisburg OH; sisters-in-law Virginia (John) Cahoon, Chillicothe OH, Kay (Bob) Grigsby, Clarksville TN; brothers-in-law Charles (Carla) Kauffman, Wauchula FL; Richard ‘Ju’ Norris, Urbana OH; father-in-law Charles Kauffman, Urbana OH; Special Nieces Brooks (Jeff) Organ & Miranda (Tommy) Trimmer as well as eight additional Nieces & Nephews and fifteen Great Nieces & Nephews; Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Many Special Friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; brother-in-law Dennis VanHoose; mother-in law Marjorie (Virts) Kauffman; sister-in-law Dorothy Norris; Grandparents Ralph Rock & Dottie Louise Spain and Lester Leroy & Esther Taylor Brenner.
A gathering of family & friends will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, February 3, at Vernon Funeral Home, North Lewisburg, Ohio, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. with The Reverend Arby Conn officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, at the family’s convenience.

Rock’s family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the outstanding care he received from Dr. Carolyn Presley, Medical Oncologist; Dr. Joshua Palmer, Radiation Oncologist; Dr. James Elder, Neurosurgical Oncologist; Polly Christman, Case Manager; the Oncology Team; and numerous nurses & technicians at The Ohio State Brain & Spine Hospital and The James Cancer Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Rock’s memory to Vernon Funeral Homes, 257 W Main St, Mechanicsburg, OH 43044. The donations will be used to help fund research of the cancers Rock battled.
