Robert “Bob” D. Strayer, 70, of Lakeview, OH passed away Friday evening, February 2, 2024, at Mary Rutan Emergency Department, Bellefontaine, OH.

Robert was born on April 28, 1953, in Bellefontaine, a son of the late Herbert Bates and Betty Ganson Strayer. He was preceded in death by a son, Jon Hardy, and his stepfather, Donald Strayer.

Bob married Jenny Strayer on June 30, 1989, in Russells Point, OH and she survives. He is also survived by five children, Lori Gibbins, John Wiley, Mary Strayer, Bobbi Strayer, all of Florida, and Jason (Anne) Hardy of Lake Stevens, WA, daughter-in-law, Bridgett Hardy of Bellefontaine, eight grandchildren, Caleb Strayer, Jenna Strayer, Joseph Hunter, Nate Hardy, Lane Howard, JT Hardy, Rose Hardy, and Esther Shattuck, three siblings, Donald (Julie) Strayer of Hocking Hills, OH, Anita Clemson of Alger, OH, and Michelle Rook of St. Paris, OH.

Bob was a 1971 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Ohio Northern University. He was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Society and at the Marianist Church on Governor’s Island. Bob owned and operated Bob’s Bike Shop for many years. He enjoyed bicycling, walking, working on cars and loved animals, especially dogs. Bob was an intelligent, kind, and helpful person who would help anyone he saw in need. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m., Thursday, February 8, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview, with visitation from 5 to 7 pm.

Memorial contribution in Bob’s memory may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
