An out-of-county defendant with an active warrant was apprehended Wednesday, Feb. 19, by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department in the parking lot at Mary Rutan Hospital.

David Brookover, 42, of Kenton, was arrested on a warrant through the Adult Parole Authority and later transferred to Hardin County Sheriff’s deputies at the county line.

Bellefontaine officers received an alert for Brookover from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, which reported he was at Mary Rutan Hospital. The defendant reportedly may have been under the influence of methamphetamine, and was driving a white Honda Accord, according to the alert.

Officers spotted the vehicle in the hospital’s west parking lot and saw a man matching Brookover’s description exiting the driver’s side. When officers approached and asked for his identity, Brookover initially provided a false name.

Police attempted to detain him and he resisted, pulling away and refusing to comply. A brief struggle ensued before officers used a takedown technique to bring him to the ground and secure him in handcuffs.

After confirming the warrant, officers transported Brookover to the Logan/Hardin County line, where he was turned over to Hardin County authorities.
