Melvin R. Allison, 91, of Bellefontaine, passed away peacefully Monday, August 26, 2024, at OSU Brain and Spine Center.

Melvin was born in DeGraff, Ohio, on July 6, 1933, to the late Charles and Mabel (Easton) Allison. He married Evelyn Brackney on July 20, 1954, on the Brackney family farm in DeGraff. She proceeded him in death on April 21, 2024, just prior to celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.

Melvin is survived by his two children, Terri (Jim) Burnside and Tom (Tammy) Allison. Five grandsons, Tim (Beth) Kerns, Travis (Gabe) Allison-Dixson, Taylor (Ashley) Allison, Jason (Catelyn) Burnside, and Nic (Jasmine) Burnside. Seven great grandchildren, TJ (Alanee) Kerns, Hunter Kerns, Kyleigh Burnside, Joel Burnside, Jase Burnside, Courtney Burnside and Kenley Burnside.

He is proceeded in death by his parents and two great grandchildren, Chase Burnside and Ella Lee Allison. Two brothers, Russell Allison and Roger Allison and four sisters, Florence Strickland, Esther Black, Bertha Curl and Doris Neff.

Melvin graduated from DeGraff High School in 1951 and proudly served in the United States Army Artillery Division from September 1953 until September 1955 as a Sergeant and track vehicle mechanic. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal during his military service.

Melvin was employed at DAB Industries as a foreman for many years and was a coordinator at AP Technoglass, where he retired from in April, 1999.  Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending many winters in his second home in Venice, Florida and rarely missed an event or activity of his grandchildren.

Melvin was known as a handy man and could build and repair most anything. He enjoyed working with and teaching his son and grandsons these skills. He enjoyed old time (or as he would say) “real” country music and collecting coins. Especially pennies with the birth year of each child and grandchild, which he then share with each of them.

A celebration of life officiated by Pastor April Phillips will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at Jennings, Farley & Seeley Funeral Home, 5591 US Highway 68 S. West Liberty, Ohio. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Logan Acres Care Center, 2739 County Road 91, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311.
