Max Eugene Hughes, 80 of Bellefontaine, OH passed away at Mary Rutan Hospital on January 26, 2023 at 4:13 AM surrounded by his loving children.
Max was born June 12, 1942 to the late Nelson Hughes & Vivian Jauret. Max is survived by 2 daughters Terrea Stanton, Karen (Dennis) Schmid, and a son Rex Hughes of Dungarvan, Ireland, 2 Sisters Alana (Clarence) Roberts, Diana Moore, Half Sister Sharon Ashcraft, 6 grandchildren Andrew Hughes, Jessica (Josh) Swisher, Patrick (Courtney) Stanton, Amber Stanton, Eric Stanton and Nicholas Stanton, 5 great-grandchildren Jaelyn Hughes, Ethan Stanton, Jase Stanton, Noah and Ellie Tomlin and several nieces & nephews.
Max attended Bellefontaine City Schools and Joined the Navy at the age of 18, where he served for 4 yrs. as a draftsman, shortly after returning home to Bellefontaine, Max met the love of his life Becky Roberts who became Becky Carrol (Roberts) Hughes on April 26, 1965. They had 39 glorious years of marriage until Becky’s untimely passing in 2004. Shortly after getting married Max & Becky moved to Flagstaff, AZ, but returned to Logan County after one year and ended up settling in life long home on East Brown Ave. in Bellefontaine in 1976. They spent many wonderful years with their children and grandchildren.
Max retired from HBD Industries in 2005 after 32 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking by making furniture to use around the home. Max had many interests over the years including Classic Rock Music, being on his computer, tending to Fish Aquariums, plants (green thumb), Ohio State Buckeyes, Minnesota Vikings, going to Hard Rock Cafe’s and he really enjoyed playing challenging puzzles like the Rubik’s cubes, Text Twist, Solitaire and crosswords.
Max was a kind & generous man who loved his family very much. He loved sharing stories about his life experiences with anyone who was lucky enough to know him. Max loved his cats Patches and Misty and his dogs, Bullet, Prince and Pepper. Max will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Per Max’s wishes there will be no viewing service scheduled. Family & Friends are invited to attend a “Celebration of Life” Memorial for Max, a Potluck dinner will be held in the basement of the American Legion in Bellefontaine on February 5, 2023 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
A graveside service will be held in Highland Memorial Cemetery at the Gazebo on Max & Becky’s Anniversary, April 26, 2023. Time to be announced later. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Heart Association.
