The former band director at Bellefontaine High School has been charged with stealing public money while employed by the Bellefontaine City Schools.
Jeremy S. Karg, 55, of Bellefontaine, was formally charged Monday, Dec. 2, in Logan County Common Pleas Court for theft in office, a fourth-degree felony, for the theft of an amount between $1,000 to $7,500. He faces up to 18 months in prison and fine of $5,000 plus restitution if found guilty of the charges.
Court documents show Aug. 29, 2023, as the date of the crime, and an investigation of the matter was initiated by the Bellefontaine Police Department shortly thereafter. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in the case.
Karg resigned his position abruptly on Sept. 1, 2023, after having served as a music educator for 32 years.
A plea hearing for Karg has been scheduled in Logan County Common Pleas Court for 10:15 a.m. Dec. 23.
