James W. “Petey” Brown, 68, of Bellefontaine, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 25, 2023, at OhioHealth Kobacker House, Columbus.
Petey was born in Bellefontaine on July 23, 1954, to the late John Eugene and Jo Lynn (McCray) Brown. He was also preceded in death by two infant children, a brother-in-law Ben Slade; and former wife Beverly K. (Snyder) Brown.
Petey is survived by his children: Daniel Artis of Troy, Jaymi Brown of Marysville, Nick Brown of Bellefontaine, and Shawn (Kyla) Rogan of Bellefontaine; numerous grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; siblings: John E. “Skeeter” (Michelle) Brown of Bellefontaine, Jo Ann Slade of Columbus, Harold C. (Rhonda) Brown of Bellefontaine, Robert D. “Bobby” Brown of West Liberty, Meri A. (Larry) Scott of Zanesfield, and Dee Loralee “Candy” Brown of Bellefontaine; numerous nieces and nephews; and a former wife Mary L. (Miller) Brown of Bellefontaine.
A graduate of Bellefontaine High School, Petey was a truck driver for many years and worked at Carter Steel and Ryder Trucking. He also worked in maintenance for Urbana University and had worked at Belletech. Petey loved to camp, fish, watch basketball, and play cards. He was always busy doing one thing or another, he could be found working on drywall or wrenching on a car.
A visitation for Petey will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, from 10am – 12 noon at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine, with Pastor Matt Sandlin officiating a graveside service for Petey at 12:30pm at Bellefontaine Cemetery.
