The Indian Lake Board of Education recognized an elementary student who is excelling in math at a national level during their regular meeting Monday night, Sept. 15.

Indian Lake Elementary School fourth-grader Addalee “Addie” Claybaugh and her family were introduced.

Last spring, ILES Co-Principal Molly Hall nominated Addie and a few other students to take a math achievement test. Addie scored so high that she was selected to be considered for the National Math Stars program.

She and her family completed an intensive interview and testing process over the summer, resulting in her being chosen as part of the very selective class of National Math Stars for this year.

Dr. Underwood explained that this honor will follow her for several years.

“As a result, Addalee is going to receive 10 years of support including personal math mentoring, advanced coursework opportunities, STEM summer camps and much more.

“She’s actually headed to Houston next month to meet with the rest of the National Math Star award winners, so we’re just extremely proud of her and the bright future that she has ahead of her.”

Addie is a daughter of Brian and Cierra Claybaugh of Jackson Center.

In addition, Dr. Underwood reported to the board that the Department of Education State Report Card for school districts was just released. Once again, Indian Lake Schools lead Logan County in academic achievement, scoring a 4 out of 5 on the report card.

“We’re still going over some of that data, but we’re proud of our staff and our students for another job well done.” Underwood continued.

“We scored a 5 out of 5 on graduation and we’re above the state average in almost every tested category.”

Finally, District Treasurer Brady Hipsher presented his first five-year forecast since taking over for Coleen Reprogle. Hipsher reports that our district is in good financial standing at this time.

Hipsher, Dr. Underwood and board members continue to watch the finances very closely as changes in tax structures at the state level threaten to change the way Ohio schools are funded.

In other action, the board:

• approved the Resolution Accepting the Amounts and Rates as Determined by the Logan County Budget Commission and authorizing the Necessary Tax Levies and Certifying them to the County Auditor for calendar year 2026,
