It was a memorable second state track and field meet for Bellefontaine sophomore standout Kylie Adams this weekend in Columbus.

Adams finished fourth in the Division II long jump (18 feet even) Saturday morning at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

She came back in the afternoon and finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (44.91) and eighth in the 100 hurdles (14.96).

“I am so incredibly proud of our sprint group,” said BHS sprints coach Cody Sigrist. “Ava (Reeves) raced against a really good field in the 100 and ran close to her personal best.

She came back and just missed out on qualifying to finals in the long jump.

“Kylie had three really tough events. Getting fourth in the long jump behind two state champs is great. Her 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles were a gauntlet to get through. Of the 18 qualifiers combined 12 were on the podium last year. She ran a near perfect race in both and she is hungrier than ever to come back next year and move up the podium.”

Bellefontaine’s Ava Reeves also competed in the long jump along with Adams and finished 15th (16-8.75). Reeves was ninth in the finals of the 100 (12.49).

“Our jumpers had a challenging day departing at 6:45 a.m., jumping early in the morning with Kylie jumping a couple hours, and coming back later in the day in the sultry 90-plus degree heat to run,” said Bellefontaine head coach Ben Davis.

After her third-place finish in the discus on Friday, BHS freshman Kelsie Snapp took ninth in the shot put (47-6) on Saturday.

As a team, Bellefontaine’s girls squad finished 11th with 17 points.

On the boys side, Bellefontaine junior Tony Stewart ran in the finals of the 3,200-meter run on Saturday and was 15th (10:14).

“Overall, it was a positive experience for our crew coming off our girls regional championship,” said Davis. “Kelsie had a career meet with PR’s in both of her events. She showed no signs of being a freshman.

“Tony’s experience will serve as a springboard for a strong senior cross country and track campaign. We return everyone, but (Sullivan Ashcraft) on our state squad to vie for another berth next season. The potential will be there to increase this year’s point total and shoot for a top 5 team spot.”
