Charles Robert “Bob” Fillinger, 75, of Rushsylvania, passed away on October 1, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Kenton, Ohio on January 3, 1948, to the late Charles “Chuck” and Freda (Penhorwood) Fillinger.

On October 25, 1980, he married Diana Corwin in her parent’s cabin near Ridgeway, Ohio.

Along with his wife, he is survived by their four children: Jeremy Fillinger of Henderson, Nevada, Jared Fillinger of Marion, Ohio, Tara (Todd) Joseph, and Steve Lockwood both of Bellefontaine. He was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Tori, Drew, Hailey, Hayden, Dalton, Ryder, Austin, Evan, and Jordan and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters: Rita Jo (Dan) Crabtree of Whitehall, Ohio, Mary Jean (Allen) McGee of Pataskala, Ohio and Peggy (Dave) Harris of Bellefontaine; brothers-in-law: Kenneth (Molly) Corwin and Darrel (Linda) Corwin and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister, Carol (Don) Myers and brothers: Bill and Mike Fillinger.

Bob grew up on a farm near Ridgeway and later moved to West Mansfield. He graduated in 1967 from Buckeye Local, where he played many sports.

He was a Specialist 5 in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. Then he went on to work for 32 years at the former Detroit Aluminum and Brass in Bellefontaine. He coached his children’s baseball teams, was a Scout Master, Charter Member of the Rushsylvania Lion’s Club, and trustee at the Rushsylvania United Methodist Church.

Bob was a lifelong and loyal Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He enjoyed walleye fishing at Lake Erie with his buddies, golfing, putting together model airplanes, watching westerns and MASH, camping, mowing his yard, and spending time with family and friends. He and his wife traveled to many states and for 13 years, supporting his wife and making friends, attended performances of  the Voices of Ohio throughout the state of Ohio.

It is said “All we can take with us to Heaven is what we leave behind in the lives we touch” Providing for his family, being a good dad, husband, and friend were his goals. He was a good man who indeed touched the lives of many.

Reverend April Phillips will officiate a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Rushsylvania United Methodist Church, 152 Rush Street, Rushsylvania, Ohio 43347. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 4, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church and also one hour prior to the service Thursday. Burial will follow the service in Rushsylvania Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the Logan County Honor Guard.
