Female victim jailed on drug charges

A Milford Center man and his girlfriend who were staying in a camper along Township Road 99 in Huntsville were each arrested Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 13 after a violent series of domestic incidents.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 2:05 p.m. to the camper and were told by the girlfriend that her boyfriend, Charles Morris Jr., 49, became angry and verbally abusive to her overnight before poking her in the face. He then came up behind her, began strangling her and threatened to kill the victim, she claimed.

The victim was able to get away from Morris and called 9-1-1, but hung up before completing the call. She left the camper and Morris locked her out of the unit.

In the morning, the victim woke Morris to get into the camper before a job interview and another physical altercation between the two ensued with Morris grabbing her hair, throwing her on the ground and attacking her, according to reports.

Deputies noted cuts on Morris’ hands and fingers and he reportedly admitted he had attacked the victim. Morris also told deputies about the couple’s drug use.

The victim was questioned about her drug use and admitted to using drugs recently. She consented to a search and law enforcement found some Suboxone pills, which were not prescribed to her.

Morris also consented to a search of the camper and deputies recovered a clipboard containing a several drug paraphernalia items with white substance residue on them and a small baggie containing a white substance.

In addition to the fifth-degree felony strangulation charge, Morris was arrested for disruption of public services, a fourth-degree felony, assault and aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanors, and drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

The female victim was arrested for misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

The two were lodged in the Logan County Jail without further incident.
