Benjamin Logan Board of Education members met for a special session Wednesday evening, Jan. 24, where they approved several administrative reassignments and changes for the 2024-25 school year.

District officials report Brian Hunt, elementary school assistant principal, and Scott Frederick, middle school assistant principal, are each retiring at the completion of this school year, creating two openings.

In addition, Special Education Director Scott LeVan has requested a transfer to a teaching assignment creating an opening for the special education director position.

To that end, the board approved the reassignment of Colleen Bodin, current elementary school principal, to the special education director position at the start of the 2024-25 school year. She was extended a two-year administrative contact that begins Aug. 1, 2024.

Mrs. Bodin has served as the BLES principal for 10 years, and previously served for nine years of teaching as a National Board Intervention Specialist and six years as a school counselor. She is eager to return to the field of special education, where she started as a teacher, school officials noted.

In other administrative reassignments, Holly Barr was approved as the new elementary school principal, beginning with the start of the 2024-25 school year. She also was extended a two-year administrative contact, which begins Aug. 1.

Barr, who is currently the middle school principal, has 19 years of previously teaching experience at the elementary level in grades one, three, four and five.
LeVan was approved for a one-year teaching contract, which begins Aug. 1.

“In talking to all my administrative staff, it made sense to me to make these recommendations to the board because I believe we are putting people in areas of their strength, which I think will benefit the district for years to come,” Superintendent John Scheu stated.

The district is currently accepting resumes for the elementary assistant principal, middle school principal and middle school assistant principal positions. Employment information can be found at https://www.benjaminlogan.org/about/employment.

In other action, the board approved:

• the addition of the special education director to ADS II on the Administrative Salary Schedule;

• the following teachers for advancement on the salary schedule: master’s — Michael Dove, Shannon Peterson; and master’s plus 15 — Chelsey Dixon;

• Justin Shupert to return to work Jan. 16 with restrictions being paid per timesheet/per diem rate; when restrictions are lifted and he resumes full duties, Shupert will resume contractual pay; and

• a revised 2024-25 school calendar, with the only change being to reflect Presidents’ Day of 2025 as a day the schools will be closed.

Upon conclusion of the board meeting, the board entered into a work session to discuss district finances.

The next regular meeting is 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26.
