Ada Ellen Thames, 82, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 8:35 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Mary Rutan Hospital. She was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on March 26, 1942, to the late Marion and Mary Jo (Stoker) Shoffner.
Ada is survived by her daughter, Andrea Ellen Brister of Brookhaven, Mississippi; son, Joseph (Tisha Adams) Thames of Bellefontaine; grandchildren, Austin (Anna) Brister, Kelly (Cooper Brinson) Brister, Antonia Adams, Danisha Artis, and Cinnamon Artis; several great grandchildren, with one on the way; sister, Joni Knox; and several close nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Ada was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mark Brister; granddaughter, Johnae Jones; and brothers, Fred Shoffner and John Shoffner.
Ada was a 1960 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and a 1963 graduate of the Lima Memorial Nursing School. She started her nursing career while serving in the United States Air Force. Throughout her career Ada worked in several hospital settings, but her time as a Labor and Delivery nurse was one of her favorites. She was a registered nurse at Mary Rutan Hospital when she retired in 2004. In her free time, Ada was an accomplished painter and loved to draw and craft. She was a member of the First Church of God in Bellefontaine, the Friendly Senior Center, and The Art Club.
Pastor Gary Brown will officiate a funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, December 6, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
