A teenage driver and two passengers in the pickup truck he was driving were injured — one seriously — after a three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon, Sept. 12, on State Route 117 about four-tenths of a mile south of State Route 273.

Chasetan Daniels, 18, of Lakeview, sustained serious injuries and was taken by Huntsville EMS squad to Lima Memorial, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.

Daniels was a passenger in a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck involved in the crash. The pickup’s driver, Xavier Schwer, 18,  of Lakeview, and another passenger in the vehicle, Evelyn Allen, 16, of Russells Point, each reportedly had minor injuries and were transported separately by BMRT squads to Mary Rutan Hospital.

Deputies report the Schwer pickup was stopped facing northbound on S.R. 117 shortly before 2 p.m. when it was struck in the rear by a northbound 2001 Ford F-350 truck. The impact caused Schwer’s F-150 to strike the rear of a northbound 2016 Jeep Patriot, which was also stopped and traveling in front of it.

Neither the Ford F-350’s driver, Jeffery Brewer, 32, of Lakeview, nor the Jeep’s driver,  Joshua Emerick, 35, of Zanesville, reported any injuries.

Brewer was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.

According to reports, all vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts.

The Schwer and Emerick vehicles had disabling damage and were towed from the scene.

Deputies closed a portion of S.R. 117 and traffic in the area was delayed about an hour.

• Deputies also report Xavier Schwer, 18, of Lakeview, was involved in a second motor vehicle accident within the same day, under a similar set of circumstances Friday night when a 2011 Hyundai Elantra he was operating was struck by another vehicle.

No injuries were reported in this second crash that occurred shortly after 10 p.m.

Deputies said Schwer was operating the westbound sport utility vehicle on U.S. Route 33 and slowed to turn onto County Road 37.

James G. Gooding, 54, of Jackson Center, reportedly was operating a westbound 2022 Ford EcoSport in behind Schwer and made an evasive maneuver to try to avoid striking Schwer’s SUV, but the EcoSport sideswiped the SUV.

Good was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.

Damage was moderate to both vehicles. The drivers were wearing their seat belts.
