LIMA – A 17-year-old Bellefontaine girl is recovering after being shot in the neck during a drive-by shooting early Saturday morning on Lima’s north side.

According to the Lima Police Department, officers responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting gunfire around 2:30 a.m. on September 13 in the 2200 block of Molly Avenue, near the Brower Commons Apartment Complex.

Shortly after the incident, a mid-size SUV arrived at St. Rita’s Medical Center with the injured teen, who had sustained a serious gunshot wound. She was stabilized at St. Rita’s and later transferred to Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus for further treatment.

Investigators say two vehicles carrying juveniles from Logan County had been visiting someone at the apartment complex prior to the shooting. As the group was leaving, multiple unidentified male suspects reportedly ran toward their vehicles and opened fire. Several shots struck one of the SUVs, injuring the 17-year-old passenger.

The vehicles fled eastbound on Brower Road and ultimately arrived at the hospital.

Detectives have interviewed several witnesses, including occupants of the vehicles and an initial person of interest. Police say they are continuing to collect and review surveillance footage from the area.

At this time, authorities have not released any names related to the case.
