John Debord, 68, of Lakeview, was taken into custody Friday afternoon, Sept. 12, following a domestic incident that involved threats of violence, according to deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched around 3:15 p.m. to a residence on Mohawk Path after Debord called to report his girlfriend was throwing items out of his home. Shortly after, a female caller reported Debord had assaulted her and threatened to shoot his girlfriend.
When deputies arrived, two women were found in a locked vehicle in the driveway, visibly upset and crying. One reported that Debord shoved her out of a doorway, causing pain, and said she wanted to press charges.
Both women also told deputies Debord had been drinking, was throwing items inside the residence, and had recently threatened to burn down a shed on the property.
While deputies were interviewing the women, Debord returned in his truck. He was detained after initially resisting a frisk and was placed in handcuffs. Deputies noted the odor of alcohol on his person and said he was argumentative during the investigation.
A witness provided a statement supporting the women’s accounts.
Debord was arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail.
• A local man was arrested Sunday evening, Sept. 14, after deputies said he assaulted his wife during an argument at their county residence.
Deputies were dispatched around 7:45 p.m. to a County Road 5 North, Bellefontaine, residence on a complaint of domestic violence.
The victim told deputies she and her husband, Justin Williams, 50, had returned from a trip to Michigan the day before, where the couple realized they were low on funds. An argument over finances continued at home, during which Williams allegedly pushed her.
Deputies noted bruising on her wrist, a scratch on her calf and soreness to her left arm.
Sunday, she reported Williams began threatening her after returning from the store, making her fear for her safety. She told deputies she wanted him removed from the home and said she intended to press charges.
Williams denied pushing his wife and said the dispute was only verbal. However, both parties provided written statements and photos were taken of the victim’s injuries.
Williams was arrested at the scene and transported to the jail on a charge of domestic violence. Deputies said he has a prior domestic violence conviction from 2006 in Furnas County, Neb.
• Deputies responded to an assault complaint about 10:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at an Alpine Parkway mobile home in Zanesfield.
According to deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Melissa Sacks, 36, reported she was visiting a nearby residence when her roommate, Carey Moore, 57, who had been drinking, shoved her during an argument. She told deputies Moore placed his hands on her throat, punched her in the nose and bit her hand during the altercation.
Sacks signed a statement and said she wished to pursue charges.
Moore denied the allegations, telling deputies he was asleep in a chair when Sacks began hitting him. He admitted pushing her back by her neck but claimed it was self-defense.
A witness at the scene supported Moore’s account, telling deputies she saw Sacks strike him first and that she had been provoking him throughout the evening.
Deputies forwarded the case to Bellefontaine Municipal Court for review of possible charges. Both parties were advised to stay away from each other.
