A planned arrest Friday, Sept. 12, quickly escalated into a major drug seizure when Logan County Sheriff’s Office detectives discovered suspected narcotics and a drug manufacturing operation at 9765 Foundry St., East Liberty.

Detectives went to serve an arrest warrant about 2:20 p.m. on 43-year-old William D. Sheets and found him seated in a minivan with 37-year-old Andrea Smith. Sheets was seen attempting to hide suspected contraband by placing items from his pockets into the vehicle’s center console. When taken into custody, he kicked the minivan door closed, locking the keys inside, saying he “didn’t need any more charges.”
A search of the vehicle uncovered crystal methamphetamine, an unidentified white powder, drug paraphernalia, and multiple cell phones. Additional suspected drugs and paraphernalia were found in Smith’s purse, leading to her arrest. While being transported to the Logan County Jail, Smith lost consciousness and was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital, where she admitted taking methadone to prevent withdrawal. She was later released, with charges expected to be filed.
Shortly afterward, 46-year-old Angela Boger, Sheets’ live-in girlfriend and owner of the residence, consented to a search of the home. Detectives observed suspected drugs and illegal drug manufacturing materials in plain view. A residential search warrant was executed, resulting in the seizure of a substantial quantity of suspected illegal narcotics, paraphernalia, and evidence of drug manufacturing. Field testing of the equipment showed a presumptive positive for cocaine.
Sheets and Boger were lodged on charges of illegal manufacture of drugs, a second-degree felony. Additional charges—including Tampering with Evidence, Possession of Drugs, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia—are pending review by the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office.
