The Bellefontaine City Council will consider the first reading of an ordinance that will appropriate a $100,000 contribution from the city that will go toward the construction of the Logan County Animal Shelter at the council’s regular meeting Tuesday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m.

The construction of the Logan County Animal Shelter is already underway just south of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

Should the ordinance pass, the ordinance will direct the city auditor to appropriate the $100,000 from Account 262.795.56200 Incidental – MRH Endowment Special Projects.

An emergency section has been added to the ordinance, meaning that the contribution will take place immediately if and when the ordinance is passed and signed by the mayor.

Also up for first readings are two separate ordinances that will create nine new firefighter/paramedic positions in the Bellefontaine Fire Department, as well as nine new police officer positions for the Bellefontaine Police Department.

Up for a second reading Tuesday will be an ordinance that will accept the LeVan annexation, just over 46 acres of land on the southeast side of the city, between Lake Avenue and Ludlow Road (County Road 1), across from both Blue Jacket Park and the Bellefontaine City School’s middle and elementary buildings. The land is expected to be used to build housing units.

The only ordinance before the council for a third reading Tuesday will be a measure in which the city will give power of attorney privileges to Priority Power Management, LLC for the purposes of natural gas aggregation.

The meeting is open to the public and designates a period at each meeting where residents may address the council directly.
