Woman lodged after ‘skip-scanning’

A local woman was arrested Sunday, July 20, after she reportedly shoplifted and “skip-scanned” a number of items at Walmart, 2281 S. Main St., at about 3:23 p.m.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were called to Walmart after asset protection associates there reported seeing Charlene King, 30, of 417 Troy Rd,  “skip-scanning” items in the self-checkout lane, while also observing her concealing over $27 in strip steaks in her purse. The stolen items totaled $165.97. 

King was arrested at the store, charged with theft, a first-degree misdemeanor, and lodged in the Logan County Jail.

OVI charge issued 

Officers issued Emily Jane Gallant, 32, of Zanesfield a summons for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs following a traffic stop in the 200 block of N. Main St. Wednesday, July 16, at about 5:21 p.m. 

Police report that an open container of alcohol and 32 Kratom capsules were recovered during the traffic stop. 

Gallant was released to a sober driver. 

Summons issued for menacing 

Police report issuing a summons to Shian Dion Locklear, 29, of 809 Heritage Ct., Apr. 27. at about 8:23 a.m. Friday after she reportedly sent a series of texts threatening violence to a named complainant. 

After officers reviewed the text chain, Locklear was located at her home and issued her a summons for aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor.

• Thomas Brock Whitehead, 39, at large, was arrested on a probation violation at Mary Rutan Urgent Care, 120 Dowell Ave., at about 4:26 p.m. Sunday. 

Police report that Whitehead, who was not wearing a shirt or shoes on their arrival, was acting very erratically and confused and was clearly under the influence, being unable to explain how and when he arrived at the Urgent Care facility. 

Officers learned that Whitehead was released from the jail last week, prompting them to contact his probation officer, who instructed them to take Whitehead back into custody. 

He was lodged in the jail without further incident.

  Also arrested this past weekend was Virgil Hinkle, 62, at large, for disorderly conduct by intoxication at about 9:57 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of south Elm Street.  

He was first taken to Mary Rutan hospital to receive treatment for a cut on his head, and after receiving treatment there, Hinkle was lodged in the jail before being transported to St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima on a 72-hour psychological hold.
