The 84th Annual Zane Township Memorial Day Parade kicked off at 11 a.m. Monday, May 27, and proceeded to the cemetery for the ceremony. (HANNAH HOPPER PHOTO)

Attendees at the Zane Township Memorial Day Ceremony pause for the Pledge of Allegiance at the cemetery Monday, May 27. Emcee Joel Penhorwood welcomed everyone and introduced Pastor Carolyn Christman for the invocation. The Benjamin Logan Middle School Band played the National Anthem. Paxton Henry sang, “God Bless the USA.” The guest speaker was Senior Master Sergeant Jason M. Hardman. Veterans in attendance were recognized, along with grand marshals, The Allen Family of Seth, Kim, and daughters Celeste and Bre, and Honorary Senior Citizens – Kelly and Sandy Johnson. Middleburg Garden Club members created a unique float paying homage to the Statue of Liberty for the 84th Annual Zane Township Memorial Day Parade. Prizes winners for the parade were announced: Best Costume — First place, Carlin Curtis; second, Rylie and Laykin Thomas; and third, Janet Whitehead; Best Decorated Bike — First place, Haley Wilgus; second place, Maverick Cooksey; and third place, Jasper, Jaelon and Jocelyn Henry; and Motorized Vehicle —First place, Colt Overton; second, Elias Henry; and third, Kylie Johnson. Parade Committee Members were recognized; Taps was played and the benediction was given. Organizers expressed appreciation to all participants and volunteers. (CYNTHIA DEARDURFF PHOTO)
