West Liberty-Salem Middle School math and science teachers took learning to new heights Friday, Oct. 31, during a visit to the Honda Automotive Labs of Ohio (HALO) Wind Tunnel in East Liberty, a state-of-the-art facility that specializes in testing vehicle aerodynamics and acoustical engineering.
During the tour, teachers learned about the detailed process of how engineers study airflow, vehicle design and sound performance to improve efficiency and safety.
The experience offered a unique look at how the math and science concepts taught in classrooms are applied every day in real-world engineering settings.
Building on the excitement from the visit, the team is now planning a virtual tour and discussion with HALO engineers for students as part of an upcoming distance learning opportunity.
“This experience was a powerful reminder that what we teach in the classroom has real-world applications,” said Middle School Principal Andy McGill. “We’re excited to bring these connections back to our students and inspire them to see the possibilities that math and science can create.”
The teachers gathered for a photo in front of the facility’s massive wind tunnel fan — an impressive display of engineering innovation and the perfect symbol of the energy and enthusiasm they’ll be bringing back to their students.
