Phyllis Haines Sewell, 98, of West Liberty, OH, formerly of Huntsville, OH, passed away Wednesday morning, November 5, 2025, at Otterbein Green Hills Senior Life Community, West Liberty.
Phyllis was born on June 10, 1927, in Byhalia, OH, a daughter of the late Delbert and Maybelle (Watts) Haines. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Penny Sewell Boose, and Donna Treen Conkle.
Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Ron) Sewell Cronley of Mt. Victory, OH, and Marsha (Gary Rutledge) Sewell Johns of Huntsville, eight grandchildren, Matt Cronley, Lance Cronley, Shane Cronley, Scott Richardson, Shannon (Rutledge) Finn, Charles Johns, Tamara Boose and Timothy Boose, 16 great grandchildren, brother-in-law, Douglas Boose, and dedicated friends, Judie and Jim Herring.
Phyllis was valedictorian of her 1945 graduating class at Byhalia High School. She formerly owned Kenton Building Center, worked for the Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and then for Adecco in Bellefontaine before retiring in her 70’s.
Phyllis was a member of Indian Lake Community Church and Indian Lake Women’s Club. She was a past member of the Logan County Election Board, Stokes Township Zoning Board and previously served as secretary/treasurer of Shawnee Island Condo Association. She was a staunch Republican, and extremely community minded. Phyllis enjoyed boating on Indian Lake and socializing with family and friends. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
No public services are scheduled at this time.
