Meeting minutes and routine bills were approved by the West Liberty Village Council at their regular meeting Monday, July 28, before Richard Ford discussed the alley closure that will soon happen in the middle of downtown.
The alley between the Logan County Libraries’ West Liberty Branch and Dorcey’s Flowers will soon be closed and purposed for other uses. Since the alley has not officially been closed, council will continue the discussion next month regarding how the area can be used for downtown patrons and businesses.
Benefits for two newer village employees also were discussed. After working for more than six months, they will be given some vacation time. A motion was made and approved for Tyler Simpson and Ben Hyland to receive some earned time off.
In newer business, Alyssa Kauffman brought the council’s attention to the bump sign on Washington Street.
“You can barely see the sign on one side of the street, and the other side of the street doesn’t even have one,” she explained. “My parents can sit on their porch and watch as people hit the bump.”
Cars have bottomed out there at the intersection of Washington Street and Newell. The street department is looking into the situation.
West Liberty Village Council meets again at 7 p.m. Aug. 11, in the Town Hall.
