UPDATE: Voters weigh in on new lineup for Bellefontaine City Council

School board races, village and township officials decided 

Several new faces will be a part of the Bellefontaine City Council meetings after the first of the year, as voters weighed in on their city council representatives in Tuesday’s General Election, Nov. 4. 

Wes Easton gained an at-large seat on the council, Devin Palmer will be representing Bellefontaine’s First Ward, Mick Lile will be representing the city’s Fourth Ward, and Ben Stahler will be presiding at council meetings as he won the President of Council’s seat in Tuesday’s election.

Of the four candidates for three at-large seats up for grabs for Tuesday’s general election, Easton earned the most votes of any candidate, pulling down 1,259 votes, while Kyle Springs and Jenna James, who were running as incumbents for the at-large positions, garnered 1,228 and 1,043 votes, respectively, to retain their seats, according to unofficial results from the Logan County Board of Election. Tim Steinhelfer, who also ran for an at-large seat, earned 646 votes, according to unofficial results. 

Deb Baker, who is currently an at-large council member, did not run for re-election Tuesday.

In the city’s First Ward, Devin Palmer will be taking the position vacated by John Aler, as she received 354 votes to Sarah Lewis’ 194 votes, according to unofficial totals. Jordan Reser and Nick Davis ran unopposed in the Second and Third Wards, respectively, and Mick Lile took the Fourth Ward position as he also ran unopposed for the seat being vacated by current Council Member MacKenzie Fitzpatrick. 

In the three-way race for the President of Council’s seat, former Bellefontaine Mayor Ben Stahler easily outpaced his opponents by collecting 950 votes, while Danielle Buchanan and Miranda Warren garnered 609 and 359 votes, respectively, according to unofficial results. 

No one was on the ballot for the Bellefontaine Treasurer’s seat, but Mark Fissel did receive 74 write-in votes for the position.

School board results (according to unofficial results from the Logan County Board of Elections):

Voters in various school districts across the county also selected members to serve on boards of education. 

Bellefontaine City School’s Board of Education was the lone contested school board race, with four candidates filing for two positions. 

Voters selected new member Rick Reed, alongside incumbent board member Bryn Daring-Stewart, with those candidates receiving 1,391 votes and 1,049 votes, respectively. 

Current board member Karen Wilson pulled in 988 votes, and fellow candidate W. Brad Flora received 570 votes.  

For Benjamin Logan’s Board of Education, voters selected members for three positions, including two incumbents Mark W. Himmeger and Debra Johnson, who received 1,256 votes and 1,340 votes respectively, and write-in candidate Anna Nicole Yelton, who received 52 votes.  

In addition, no valid petition filed for a Benjamin Logan board seat, with an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2027. 

Indian Lake’s Board of Education candidates also featured two incumbents, Shannon Reese and Scott Staley, who received 1,191 votes and 1,124 votes, respectively, to fill two spots on the board. 

For Riverside’s Board of Education, three incumbents were on the ballot to fill three positions. Bradley K. Adams received 271 votes, while Janet Siders and Duane Heath received 298 votes and 359 votes, respectively. 

No valid petition was filed for a Riverside Board of Education seat for an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2027. 

For West Liberty-Salem’s Board of Education, three positions were available to fill. Incumbent Tim Lamb received 448 votes, while write-in candidates James Ryan Pratt and Doug Williams received 38 votes and 26 votes, respectively. 

Village council results, all for uncontested races (according to unofficial results from the Logan County Board of Elections):

Belle Center — Robert James, 97 votes; Anita Legge, 126 votes; no valid petitions filed for two council seats.

DeGraff — Heidi Duckro, 166; no valid petition filed for three council seats; 

Huntsville — No valid petitions filed for four council seats; 

Lakeview — Jeffrey L. Hertig, 56; Clayton Hooker 51; Ryan Shoffstall 112; and write-in candidate Todd Mackesy, 5 votes. 

Quincy — Sheryl Hatfield, 46; no valid petitions filed for three council seats; 

Rushsylvania — Sarah S. Eagy, 53; Cole Harbour, 64; no valid petitions filed for two council seats. 

Russells Point — Judith Ann Elleman, 73; Greg Iiams, 79; Rebekah Smith, 81; and write-in candidate Elizabeth Gibson, 9 votes.  

West Liberty — Jayne Griffith, 207; Trent Spriggs, 175; no valid petitions filed for two council seats.

West Mansfield — Michael W. Duncan 81; Libby Wykstra 94; write-in candidate Derrick Detrick, 20 votes; no valid petition filed for one council seat. 

Zanesfield — No valid petitions filed for four council seats. 

In Russells Point, John Huffman ran for mayor in an uncontested race for an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2027, receiving 106 votes. 

For Valley Hi commissioner, Eric McCreary received 8 votes as the only candidate. 

For Zanesfield mayor, no valid petitions were filed. 

Township trustees (according to unofficial results from the Logan County Board of Elections) 

In a contested race to elect two trustees for Bokescreek Township, Todd M. Elliot secured 149 votes and James D. Rice received 148 votes. The third candidate, Paul Schaller, received 92 votes. 

In Harrison Township, two trustees were selected out of three candidates as well, with David L. Jackson receiving 261 votes, and Jerold E. Wiford garnering 179 votes. The third candidate Darin Collins received 169 votes. 

For Monroe Township, two trustees were selected out of four candidates. Keith LeVan received the most votes at 199, followed by Robert Zimmerman at 150; and James P. Naderer, 133; Donald E. Bradley, 112. 

Perry Township featured three candidates running for two trustee positions. John D. Gibson received the most votes, 187; followed by John Baughman, 181; and Brian Tracey, 82. 

In Stokes Township, two trustees were selected out of three candidates. Steven L. Terrill received 452 votes, followed by Terry Honnold, 350; and James L. Baker, 237. 

For Washington Township, three write-in candidates for two trustee positions. Tucker Berg received 77 votes, followed by Teather Faulder, 56; and Jacob Wildermuth, 34. 

Uncontested township trustee races included the following: 

Bloomfield — Kelly Copeland 58; Kyle Knief 73; also, no candidates filed for a Bloomfield Township trustee position for a term ending Dec, 31, 2027; 

Jefferson — Scott R. Armentrout, 591; Anthony Bernard, 399. 

Lake — Peter F. Stolly, 1,147; Randal R. Varner, 946.

Liberty — C.J. Hostetler, 444; write-In candidate Wayne Yoder, 136. 

McArthur — D. John Cummins, 233; Daniel J. Hurley, 272. 

Miami — Write-in candidate Marvin W. McCully, 22; no valid petition filed for one trustee position. 

Pleasant — Jeffrey Schindewolf, 141; no valid petition filed for one trustee position.
