Top of Ohio Patriots (TOP) once again welcomed Rep. Jim Jordan to their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in Bellefontaine. The congressman stopped by briefly to talk about what’s happening in D.C. and answer some questions from attendees.

Local singer Brook Abella opened the event with a couple of acapella worship songs and “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Once Jordan arrived, he quickly covered three topics, starting with the “big, beautiful bill.”

“You know it’s good,” Jordan began, “because the left hates it.” He stated the bill “empowers families, not the government” because “parents and families are more important than big government.”

Other key aspects of the bill Jordan mentioned are tax cuts, border security and the provision stating able-bodied individuals getting taxpayer money are required to work a certain amount of hours each month.

Second, Jordan admitted Congress is six or seven days away from a shutdown and, he said, “I think that’s going to happen.”

Finally, he spoke about Charlie Kirk’s assassination on Sept. 10. Jordan referred to 2 Timothy 4:7 – “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

He pointed out the three action words in that verse: fought, finished and kept.

“Charlie lived that verse. That should be the example for all of us.”

During the question and answer part of the meeting, Jordan talked about efforts underway by the Democrats to impeach President Trump again, the importance of the midterm election in 2026, the struggle to actually get anything done, and the announcement that same day that YouTube and Google had both submitted letters acknowledging they had censored Republicans.

“Everything they told us during covid turned out to be false,” Jordan stated, “and yet they were kicking people off platforms for speaking out against it.”

He concluded, “The constitution doesn’t get suspended during a crisis. That’s when it matters most.”

Before Jordan left for his next appointment, Devin Palmer, chairperson of the TOP board, and board member Robert Rood took a moment to pray for the congressman.

The next TOP meeting, to be held Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m., will review the state of Logan County. This is an annual opportunity for the community to hear from and ask questions of Bellefontaine Mayor Dave Crissman, Logan County Sheriff Randy Dodds, Bellefontaine Chief of Police Chris Marlow and Logan County Commissioner Michael Yoder.
