A city woman was lodged in the Logan County Jail Wednesday, May 28, just after 2 p.m. following a traffic stop on north Main Street near Dowell Avenue.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report that they initiated the stop after they observed Christine N. McComas, 47, of 1000 Garfield Ave., Lot 64, driving near the Mary Rutan Health Center on the north side of the city.

Officers were aware that McComas did not have a valid driver’s license and confronted her in the parking lot of the medical facility, where she was unable to provide a valid ID card.

She reportedly gave officers permission to search her vehicle, at which time they found a small amount of what was believed to be crack cocaine on the operator’s seat of her car. A field test was conducted on substance which revealed the presence of cocaine.

McComas was then arrested for possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and transported to the jail. A further search of the car revealed no other illegal items.

McComas’ phone was seized in the search and the suspected cocaine was sent to the lab for further testing.
