Bellefontaine native Staff Sgt. Carl Adams, an assistant operations chief in the Marine Corps Security Training Forces Company, will be the featured speaker at the Logan County Veterans Day ceremony, which begins at 11:11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, by the Veterans Plaza of the Logan County Courthouse.
The ceremony moves indoors to the Holland Theatre, where Staff Sgt. Adams and others will share remarks.
A free meal for veterans follows at the American Legion Post 173 in Bellefontaine.
Adams was born July 31, 1992, in Bellefontaine and he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on the June 6, 2011, according to information provided by the American Legion.
The longtime service member’s personal awards include two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals with “C” devices, as well as two additional Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
Upon graduation from Recruit Training at Paris Island, S.C,, Adams received meritorious promotion to Private First Class.
In September 2011, he reported to Infantry Training Battalion (ITB) School of Infantry Aboard Camp Geiger, N.C., and upon graduation, he received a Meritorious Mast and the MOS 0341 Infantry Mortarman.
During November 2011, Pfc. Adams reported to Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion 9th Marines, 2nd Marine Division aboard Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, where he served as a team leader and then promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in May 2012.
Lance Cpl. Adams reported to the Charlie Company, 1st Battalion 8th Marines, in July 2013. There he served as a mortar section leader.
During February 2014, Cpl. Adams deployed under the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan.
While deployed, he participated in exercise BALIKATAN in the Philippines, conducting bilateral training with the Philippine Marines.
Then in October 2014, Cpl. Adams reported to the Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion 6th Marines. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in March 2015.
Sergeant Adams served as section leader for the Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP) force platoon.
During October 2015, Sgt. Adams was deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). The following December, he conducted a lateral move to MOS 0365 Infantry Squad Leader.
In March 2017, Sgt. Adams reported for a new assignement aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif., to serve as a CAAT section leader.
That October, Sgt. Adams deployed to the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response, Central Command, in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
While deployed, the Bellefontaine native served as CAAT 2 platoon sergeant supporting Iraqi Security Forces during their clear of Anna, Rawa and Al Qaim.
Then in December 2017, Sgt. Adams’ platoon was attached to the U.S. Army Special Forces team in eastern Syria.
After returning stateside in May 2018, Sgt. Adams was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant that October.
He also successfully graduated from the Infantry Unit Leaders Course in December 2018.
During October 2019, he redeployed once again in support of Operation Inherent Resolve in eastern Syria.
He returned statewide in June 2020 and successfully graduated from the Security Forces Training Course. Staff Sgt. Adams was a lead instructor for the Security Forces Training Courses before moving up to the chief instructor and assistant operations chief roles.
