Marijuana, solar ordinances likely to be presented at city council

Two controversial ordinances – the first implementing a ban on the sales of adult-use, recreational marijuana in the city, and the second which establishes the ground rules for building solar-generating facilities within the city – are likely to be introduced at the regular meeting of the Bellefontaine City Council at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Both of the ordinances were tabled prior to their introduction at the last meeting of council at the request of Rules Committee Chairperson Jenna James. She cited the fact that the full council was not present at the Jan. 28 meeting, and the committee would prefer to present these two important ordinances when all seven members of council are in attendance.

Should all seven councilpersons be present at Tuesday’s meeting, both ordinances will likely be introduced at the meeting for a first reading.

Up for a third reading and final vote at Tuesday’s meeting will be a ordinance that will allow the city to accept the annexation of approximately one-third of a acre of land located in the vicinity of Cooper Avenue from the Logan County Commission.

An ordinance up for a first reading is the authorization for the city to apply for a Community Corrections Act Grant from the State of Ohio Department Rehabilitation in the approximate sum of $257,460 for the operation of the Probation Department of the Bellefontaine Municipal Court. The grant period would be for two years and begin in June 2025.

Another ordinance, up for a second reading, will allow the city to enter into a contract with Harrison Township for a chip-seal and fog seal overlay of the city’s portion of Township Road 46 near State 47, toward County Road 13, at a cost of $15,000.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting.
