Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Bellefontaine area man early Friday morning, Sept. 5, after a domestic dispute in which he allegedly threatened to burn down a house and kill its occupants, including law enforcement officers.
At 2:54 a.m., deputies responded to a County Road 29, Bellefontaine, residence following reports of a disturbance involving Shanon Ervin, 45, and family members, according to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
A female resident told deputies Ervin had previously shoved her mother against a wall, threatened to shoot family members from the woods with a bow and arrows, and claimed a civil protection order would not stop him. Another woman, identified as Ervin’s girlfriend, said he had also threatened to cut her brake lines, set the home on fire, and shoot family members as deputies arrived.
Ervin reportedly said he was not afraid of law enforcement because he is a “hunter.”
Deputies reviewed a cellphone video in which Ervin could be heard threatening to “punch” one of the women, though they noted the recording did not show her in fear at that moment. The girlfriend, however, told deputies she was terrified and felt unable to leave with her children because of Ervin’s threats.
When confronted, Ervin denied the allegations and said he only wanted to relax after work. Deputies ultimately removed him from the residence and placed him under arrest for domestic violence.
The suspect, who is currently on probation, was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
