A Springfield man was arrested Wednesday evening, Aug. 27, after law enforcement discovered suspected drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop in the 200 block of County Road 190 West.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle around 7:41 p.m. after noticing an audible exhaust defect while it was traveling south on U.S. Route 68.
The driver, Carl Cook, 41, admitted his license was not valid. Records later confirmed that Cook’s license was under suspension for non-compliance.
During the stop, the deputy observed signs of possible drug use and asked Cook if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. Cook reportedly disclosed the presence of tinfoil with burnt residue used for fentanyl.
A search of the vehicle revealed a metal pipe, foil with residue, and a small orange chunk of an unknown substance.
Cook admitted to using fentanyl earlier that day. He was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail, where he was lodged on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
The unidentified substance was sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for testing, and additional charges may be filed depending on lab results.
Despite his arrest, deputies noted that Cook was cooperative and respectful throughout the encounter. He was issued warnings for driving under suspension, failure to reinstate, and the vehicle’s exhaust defect.
The vehicle was towed for safekeeping.
