A former Logan County Sheriff’s Deputy and local graduate was among three Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers recognized recently for their outstanding efforts in keeping Ohio’s roads safe.

Cole Piatt, a trooper now serving at the Springfield Post, was recognized Aug. 29 with both the Ace Award and the Criminal Patrol Award for his work in removing drugs from communities and recovering stolen vehicles.

Piatt is a 2013 graduate of West Liberty-Salem. He’s a former officer for the Mechanicsburg Police Department, and worked as a Logan County Sheriff’s deputy for almost 10 years.

The Ace Award is given to troopers who excel in looking “beyond the plate,” an approach that has proven crucial in the fight against illegal drug trafficking and vehicle theft. Piatt’s efforts have been critical in intercepting illegal drugs and ensuring stolen vehicles are returned to their rightful owners, according to the highway patrol.

Also recognized was Trooper Jason L. Whitner from the Dayton Post, who received the Ace Award for his exceptional work in similar areas.

Trooper Haley K. L. Justice from the Chillicothe Post was awarded the Criminal Patrol Award, recognizing her success in identifying and apprehending suspects while on patrol.

These awards highlight the important role that state troopers play in maintaining public safety, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol commended troopers Piatt, Whitner, and Justice with a Facebook post.
